How email and SMS work in LeadRilo, your responsibilities for lawful messaging, and how opt-outs and unsubscribes are handled.

1. Overview
LeadRilo helps you respond to and follow up with leads and customers by email and, where enabled, SMS. This page explains how messaging works and the compliance responsibilities that come with it.
2. Your Responsibility
When you use LeadRilo to message people, you are the sender. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to your communications, including:
- Having a lawful basis or consent to contact each recipient
- U.S. texting/calling rules (for example, the TCPA) where they apply
- Email rules such as CAN-SPAM, including a truthful sender identity and a working unsubscribe
- Honoring opt-out and do-not-contact requests promptly
In progress: A valid postal address for marketing email footers must be provided before sending marketing email at scale (CAN-SPAM). This is tracked as a launch item.
3. Opt-Outs & Unsubscribes
Recipients can opt out of your messages. LeadRilo supports honoring these requests so you can meet your obligations:
- SMS recipients can reply with standard opt-out keywords (such as STOP) to stop texts
- Email recipients can use the unsubscribe path in your messages
- Opt-out status should be respected across future sends
Messaging providers such as Twilio (SMS) and Resend (email) may apply their own compliance handling as well. You remain responsible for lawful use.
4. Messages From LeadRilo
Separately, LeadRilo sends you service messages (such as account, security, and billing notices) that are necessary to provide the platform. We may also send product or marketing messages, which you can opt out of without affecting essential service notices.
5. AI-Assisted Messaging
AI features can suggest draft replies to help you respond faster. Suggestions are drafts — you decide what to send, and the same consent and compliance rules apply to AI-assisted messages as to any other.
